Me and My Music

I've been playing guitar, singing and making music of various styles for a long long time. Really, really long time!
Here are some pieces of music that I have been involved with, in no particular order.
Feel free to download them, but remember that all copyright initially belongs to me - Gary Grainger.
I am open to discussion if you wish to use any of these pieces for anything - you know, a new A side for your next single, an album track, the soundtrack of the new blockbuster movie or whatever!

Gary and Paul

ME AND MY BROTHER

My younger brother Paul wrote a load of tunes, some by himself and some with input from me, and we went to a home studio run by a friend of mine, Alan Murray, and got them down after a fashion. Shortly after, my brother and I appeared at a local pub in Bishop Auckland.  It was my brother's first gig - he was terrified! That's a picture of us up there. I am on the right, with the nearly-mullet hairstyle! I also have a not very good recording of the show - I'll choose the best of the bunch of those songs and put them up later. I recorded the live tracks to CD, designed a cover and added the songs listed below, and gave it to our kid as a present. He was dead chuffed! It would be fair to say that Paul's major influence at this time was John Prine.

I also recorded some of Paul's songs when I played in The Bob Allison Country Band (see below).

Here are some of the songs (more will follow) that Paul and I recorded at Alan Murray's studio - they were all written by Paul, and he does all of the singing and acoustic rhythm guitar. Alan looked after the technical stuff and I did everything else.
Blue Chip
For a few months in 2002 and 2003, (I think) I sang and played guitar in a blues/jazz influenced band called Blue Chip. We practised a lot, played three or four gigs, and broke up. I really enjoyed this band, as I hadn't played for a while, and we were all good musicians (apart from me!)

Here's a picture of our first gig at a pub in Guisborough. I'm on the left. No, I'm not reading the dots, I'm reading the words, 'cos I have a terrible erm, whatchamacallit? Ah, yes - memory! That other guy is Terry, an awesome bass player with an awesome Alembic bass.
